As an insurance provider to the travel industry, we are deeply saddened to hear of the collapse of travel giant Thomas Cook. We feel for their staff and our best wishes are with them during this very difficult time. It will be troublesome for affected travellers and mighty busy for those involved in the repatriation of existing bookings and those rearranging forward plans – but for the financial security and the liability protection that comes with it, we have to thank the Package Travel Regulations.
A note on Thomas Cook Group’s website says:
“Thomas Cook UK Plc and associated UK entities have entered compulsory liquidation and are now under the control of the Official Receiver. The UK business has ceased trading with immediate effect and all future flights and holidays are cancelled. A dedicated support service is being provided by The Civil Aviation Authority to assist customers currently overseas and those in the UK with future bookings.”
If you know anyone affected, please direct them to ABTA’s website for guidance.
